San Jose State University
For the first time ever, the Mechanical Engineering department will showcase student-designed and built vehicles for competitions sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineering (SAE) at the Coyote Creek Concours d’Elegance. These vehicles include a Gasoline-Powered Formula-SAE and an Electric-Powered Formula-SAE. San Jose State University’s Spartan Racing Team took the First Place award in Gasoline-Powered Formula-SAE competitions in June 2015 held in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Our Hybrid & Electric Vehicle Technology Laboratory provides students with education and state-of-the-art hands-on experience to enter the growing automotive industry, in particular, in Silicon Valley. Students will showcase a Solar-Powered Sustainable Golf Cart.
The San Jose State University Mechanical Engineering Department and Industrial Technology Program
Mechanical engineering is a traditional engineering discipline encompassing diverse applications of science and technology. Industrial technology is the use of engineering and manufacturing technology to make production faster, simpler and more efficient. The industrial technology field employs creative and technically proficient individuals who can help a company achieve efficient and profitable productivity.
The San Jose State University Mechanical Engineering Department offers ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science (BS ME) and a Master of Science (MS ME) in mechanical engineering. The industrial Technology Department offers three Bachelor of Science degrees: BS IT - Manufacturing Systems, BS IT - Computer Network System Management and BS IT - Computer Electronics and Network Technology.
Our hands-on curriculum and projects give students the best opportunity to learn and interact with our faculty. Our graduates work in many diverse industries in the Silicon Valley, including: semiconductor manufacturing and equipment, computers and electronics, aerospace, automotive, power generation, alternative energy, biotechnology and biomedical devices, to name just a few.
